We had quite the year what with appearing with Show of Hands at the Royal Albert Hall and debuting at Glastonbury thanks to Steve Knightley. We figured a new album would make it a hat trick! We had a few new songs, a couple of covers and a song that didn’t make it on to the last album so it came together quite quickly. We also recorded it in as little sessions as we could manage to try and keep things fresh and true as possible to the live show with respect to some songs like Sleep With One Eye Open, Water The Lawn etc., On other albums we’d dabbled with different styles but we’re not holding back much on this one and enjoying the full-on bluegrass, latino/fronterizo and folk/blues buzz of the majority of the songs. We were thrilled to have Lou Marini pop by the studio to record sax on “Be Your Silver Bullet”, the goosebumps listening to him play the soundtrack of our lives. There are much less strings on this album than the last one but we’re delighted that Chris and Adrianne have once again added their magic to “Peace Inside”. Lu Garnet is a newcomer to the Spanish music scene and we’re sure she’s going to make a big impact over the coming years. Her voice has added something very special to our version of Fleetwood Mac’s “Rhiannon”. Thanks again to Santi Alcanda for the opportunity to perform it and hence record it for this album. Our good friend and Yorkshire folk goddess Alice Jones added some perfect harmonium to Robbie’s tribute to the wonderful Les Barker.
